Academic Rap Up

Over the past five years, UCAN has brought Hip-Hop into local schools, both using Hip-Hop as a culturally relevant pedagogical framework within existing curricula and teaching the history of the culture and music.

Students learn from local Hip-Hop artists, engage with subject matter through Hip-Hop and create original songs to demonstrate their understanding of the unit. Young members of the community receive mentorship and artists receive experience, professional development and payment for their work in district classrooms.

Schools that have implemented our “Academic Rap Up” program include Blackhawk Middle School, Capitol High (east and west), and Badger Rock.
